Obnoxious with a Capital O

Arrgh......... Had a bad day..... To my classmates who will read this, please hush hush, since i'm just trying to make my point here..... Anyway, imagine yourself, having this burden of being a group leader and to think I'm probably the youngest one among our group..... I feel like I'm in a very difficult position. I tried to do my job, but apparently, SOME PEOPLE isn't doing theirs..... on person is always absent... and the other one..... well, i had a good impresion of her at first, but now.... I dunno..... no comment...... It so happened that I had a high regard for her, because she's the oldest one among us and she seemed to be up for the challenge...... Oh well, I was a tad wrong..... just because we had a certain miscommunication, she entirely blame the whole thing on me....... if I knew I was really the one to blame, I would admit it, like I did during our first report. I'm willing to take the blame.... But in this case, no way, jose.... She knew what our group was supposed to report, and yet she never even asked why her copy seemed different..... (Kung hindi din ba siya tanga!!!!) I mean, she BLAMED ME for her stupidity...... I'm not laughing at her drama-drama-han because I also cried during our first report, but now, i don't see any reason why she cried over hers.... One thing I see here: REACTION FORMATION / RATIONALIZATION She blames the whole thing entirely on me (RATIONALIZATION) and she cried (REACTION FORMATION) ........ What the hell is that??? I think she haven't even read and understood her report..... Arghh........ bad day done..... Nalabas ko na yung sama ng loob ko.... Thank you for reading....

The Carrot , the Egg and the Coffee

A daughter complained to her father about her life and how things were so hard for her. She said,"Father, I do not know how I am going to make it. I just feel like giving up. I'm tired of fighting and struggling. It seems as though every time one of my problems is solved, a new one comes along. I just can't take it anymore."

Her father took her to the kitchen. He filled three pots with water and placed them each on high heat. Soon the pots came to a boil. In one pot of boiling water, he placed carrots. In the second, he placed eggs, and in the last pot, he placed coffee beans. He let them sit and boil, without saying a word. The daughter impatiently waited, wondering what he was doing.

Twenty minutes later, he turned off the burners. He strained the water from the carrots and placed them in a bowl. He lifted the eggs out and placed them in another bowl. Then he ladled the steaming coffee into a bowl. Turning to her he asked,"What do you see?" "Carrots, eggs and coffee," she replied. He brought her closer and asked her to feel the carrots. She did and noted that they were soft and mushy. He then asked her to take an egg and break it. After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard-boiled egg. Finally, he asked her to sip the coffee. She smiled as she tasted its flavor and smelled the rich aroma. She humbly asked,"But what does it mean, Father?"

He explained that each of them had been plunged into boiling water, but each had reacted differently. The carrot went into the water strong and hard but after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened and become weak. The egg had been fragile. Its thin outer shell had protected its soft, liquid interior. But after sitting in the boiling water, it became hard on the inside.

The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water, the water did not really change them. They changed the water! "Which are you?" the father gently asked his daughter.

"When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you more like a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?"

How about you? Are you the carrot that started out strong and hard long ago, but with the pain and adversity of your life struggles, did you become soft and lose your strength?

Are you the egg that started out soft inside? Were you a fluid spirit, but after the pain of death, abuse, rejection, poor health, divorce, or a layoff, have you become hardened? Your outer shell might look the same, but have you become hard-boiled and toughened in your spirit and your heart?

Or are you like the coffee bean? The bean that was plunged into the rapidly boiling water actually changed the hot water and gave it flavor and aroma, reaching its peak flavor at 212 degrees Fahrenheit! That is hot water!

When you are plunged into hot water, into anything that brings you pain, like being immersed in the adversities of life, be like the coffee bean. When things are their worst, you will get stronger and make things better around you, and...you will always leave an aroma that's most pleasing to others as well as to yourself.

It's a Hap Hap Happy Day!!!!

God works in mysterious ways..... and it's true!!!!! Yehey, yehey, yehey, yehey.......... ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ ^_^ Lalalala.......

I PREDICT!: What's Coming in Book 6

1) Amelia Bones as Minister of Magic. After the Fudge scandal, the Ministry will be looking for someone who instills confidence: a no-nonsense administrator of justice totally untainted with any stain of Fudge. Amelia Bones is head of the Department of Magical Law Enforecement, so she's a shoo-in for the job. This also means that ...
2) Susan Bones will be important. Susan is Harry's contact with Amelia, at the very least. Count on her to be an ardent supporter of Harry and enthusiastic DA member. But of course, if Amelia Bones is in, that means someone else is out. So ...
3) Lucius Malfoy's arrest will strongly affect his cronies in government, starting with Fudge. Yes, poor Cornelius will be out of a job, and don't think he'll take it lying down. He will probably avoid prison, but that just means he'll be even more able to cause trouble. Look for him to join Voldemort, maybe not as a Death Eater and maybe not voluntarily (at least that's what he'll say when he gets caught) but he'll join. Fudge is weak and easily manipulated; he'll do as he is told. And besides Fudge ...
4) Percy gets fired and is still estranged from the family, either out of shame or spite. Imagine if you were Percy. You've turned your back on parents who have done nothing but embarrass you, gotten a good job as assistant to the Minister of Magic then ... what? He gets sacked, and you along with him. Nobody wants you around, and you suddenly discover you were never qualified for the job in the first place. Now what do you do?
Expect him to take a room in Diagon Alley and sulk for a bit, then get caught up in whatever Fudge gets into. Percy likes to ride other people's coattails, and if he can, he'll milk Fudge for whatever remnants of power he can get. It's a hard thing to swallow your pride, especially to people you've insulted. While Percy will become a good egg in the end, he won't do it just yet.
5) Ron has flashbacks from the brains. Remember when Ron and Hermione were recovering from their injuries in OotP, and it said that those brains leave scars deeper than physical ones? I expect Ron will suffer some kind of psychological troubles, the nature of which will be connected to the personalities in those brains.
Gee, I hope they weren't criminal (HEM! HEM!) brains. Hmmm ... come to think of it, the Department Of Mysteries doesn't seem so much full of mysterious things as full of dangerous things. And speaking of injuries...
6) Hermione still suffers from Dolohov's curse (and we find out just what it is). You can bet that was no ordinary curse; it took ten different potions to save Hermione. Don't think for a minute she is fully recovered.
There's got to be a reason JKR did not tell us anything more about this curse: she is saving it for Book 6. Madam Pomfrey knows, or she wouldn't have been able to treat it. And don't think it wasn't serious because Hermione didn't go to St. Mungo's; Dumbledore wouldn't trust her health to that untrustworthy place. It makes you really appreciate how great a healer Madam Pomfrey is.
I predict Hermione will suffer a relapse about halfway through Book 6, and this will give Harry yet another worry on top of the "main" Worry of the book.
7) Narcissa Malfoy inherits 12 Grimmauld Place. Why not? She is one of Sirius' closest living relatives. This would mean the Order must vacate and find new digs, and that Narcissa (and Draco, and Lucius, and Voldy) will have access to the Order's secrets. It's a plot twist too juicy for JKR not to use. Then again, maybe ...
8) Harry inherits 12 Grimmauld Place. After all, he is probably Sirius' heir -- probably, not for certain. If so, that lets the Order keep the house, and it gives Harry his own digs, safe from detection. In fact, technically it even gives him ownership of Kreacher, though I don't think the elf will obey Harry. That, too, would be an interesting twist.
9) Harry speaks to the Quibbler, but not the Prophet. This is an easy one. Why would Harry talk to a newspaper that has printed such evil lies about him? He'll keep on talking to Mr. Lovegood and let Luna's father print everything first and make all the daily profits (Ha!) from resale to that "Other Paper." In fact, I expect Harry to make at least one visit to Luna's house over the summer, which leads to ...
10) Harry + Luna (and Hermione gets jealous). You saw it in OotP; now it will come to the foreground, since Harry will be a lot more involved with the Quibbler anyway. Besides, Harry and Luna have a lot in common: they can see thestrals, hear the dead, and plenty of people have called them crazy. Luna also has a sort of noble serenity that Harry desperately needs. He needs the love of a good woman, and Luna is very good indeed ... and he won't let nargles stand in the way of a good kiss this time, I hope.
What about Hermione? Well, as much as she flirts and bickers with Ron, I think her true love is Harry; and as rational as she is, she is also still human, so I expect her to be jealous of Luna. And don't think Ron won't notice, which means ...
11) Ron's jealousy grows. We've seen glimpses of Ron's jealous streak over Harry's money and Hermione's feelings for Viktor. Expect that to grow enormously huge once Ron realizes that Hermione fancies Harry over him.
JKR is no stranger to irony, and the irony here is that Ron is quite rich indeed, especially in Harry's view, by having such a wonderful family and no dark wizards trying to kill him. To Ron, Harry has all the money, all the glory, all the Quidditch skill, a better broom - even his own mother's affections, which he doesn't like to share. And don't forget Ron's older twin brothers respect Harry while they still treat Ron like a little twerp. Harry has even enabled those brothers to set up their own business, which Ron could never do. So Ron has plenty of reasons to envy Harry, and if he loses Hermione as well, the result could be violent and tragic.
12) The Dursleys are attacked and taken to St. Mungo's. Yes, Voldy will try to destroy Harry's home protection by destroying the home - not the building, but the familial bond that protects him. It only lasts as long as Petunia makes him welcome: no more Petunia, no more welcome. Expect the Dursleys to get it when they are outside of 4 Privet Drive somewhere, and expect them to be taken to St. Mungo's, the only place to treat curses. As to whether they will live, I have no idea ... but I do expect Harry will have more positive feelings for them than even he ever expected.
13) Lucius Malfoy is sprung from Azkaban. You better believe it. Maybe Draco or Narcissa will smuggle him a wand. More likely he'll bribe his way out. This could be by paying off the new guards, or by paying off friends in high places. Either way, he'll be out before the end of Book 6.
14) Draco Malfoy finally becomes a full-fledged Death Eater. Remember that in JKR's world, 17 is the age of majority (is this true of the Muggle-UK as well?). Thus when Harry is 17, all though Book 7, he will be an adult and able to use magic. We don't know when Draco's birthday is, but how much do you want to bet it's before the end of the school year? Once he is of age he will fulfill his greatest dream, to join his parents at the side of Lord Voldemort.
Come to think of it, I don't know why he couldn't have joined already. Is it likely Voldy would refuse supporters because they're underage? I believe he does, but only for a practical reason: maybe wizards under 17 cannot be held to a magical contract? Er, no, that would mean Harry didn't have to do the Tri-Wizard Tournament. It's a puzzler. Anyway, Draco becomes a Death Eater. Count on it.
15) Draco helps the DE attack Hogwarts. This is another obvious one. In fact, I'd expect he somehow comes by the Marauder's Map and they get in through the Shrieking Shack. Not sure if the Marauder's Map mentions how to deactivate the Whomping Willow. If not, it could be comical: the Death Eaters come slinking out and ... WHOMP!!
16) Bigger roles for the Creeveys. I hate to sound callous, but I figure one or both of them will die. Whether they do or not, Colin and Dennis will be avid and powerful members of the DA.
17) Fred and George do a bang-up business. As I said above, this is further cause for resentment on Ron's part. Expect Weasley inventions to play a significant role in defeating the DE, finding Ludo Bagman, and much more. And that reminds me ...
18) Bagman will return. We'll find out where he's been hiding, and we might see Voldy sacrifice him to the goblins for their support. Definitely, he'll be a desperate man.
19) Mrs. Weasley finds out where Fred and George got the money and is furious - at Harry! This is actually a long shot. I would expect Molly to give her approval to the twins as long as they are successful, but maybe not. Maybe she'll feel that too many of her children are getting away from her. I think she'll be angry at Harry, though she'll be ashamed of it. Actually I think Molly's got a lot to be ashamed of (see below).
20) Ginny's relationship with Dean Thomas bothers Ron ... and Molly. We saw in OotP that Ron was upset to hear Ginny is dating Dean Thomas, and then ... nothing. If you read Galadriel Waters' excellent book, you know that when JKR suddenly changes the subject, that's a clue! So, what is the clue leading to? Plainly, Ron doesn't want Ginny and Dean to be together, but why?
Some might say racism, and I'd have to agree ... but not the way you think. It's not the fact that Dean is black that bothers Ron, but the fact that he is Muggle-born. Of course, Hermione is Muggle-born and Ron has taken up with her, but as with all pejudices, people lack self-criticism: they don't hold themselves to the same standard they set for others.
The question is, especially considering who his father is, why would Ron have anti-Muggle prejudice? Well, I think he gets it from his mother, and that in Book 6...
21) Molly Weasley's prejudices will become apparent. I have a theory about Molly. Remember that she is related to the Blacks, but a "blood-traitor." While Molly has made a decision to turn her back on her upbringing, she cannot erase it. As much as she knows it is wrong, deep down inside she still has anti-Muggle feelings. For that matter, she despised Sirius in OotP for being a prisoner, even though he was innocent.
Quite simply, Molly is concerened with "What is Proper," and she despises "What is Improper." Notice how she treats Mundungus, even though he has never done anything to her and Dumbledore vouches for him. To Molly, being a thief is improper, as is being a prisoner, even if you're innocent ... or being Muggle-born, even if you're a fine and decent person.
For these reasons you can expect Molly will disapprove of Ron's and Ginny's romantic choices. Yes, she is nice to Hermione, but she has to be, doesn't she? Her outward behavior doesn't show what she feels inside. One wonders what she will think when she finds out Fleur Delacour is part veela. One must also expect that her attitude has rubbed off on her children, probably in things she said and did when they were small and she thought they wouldn't understand or remember. That's how prejudices are passed on, after all.
22) Harry returns as Gryffindor seeker. Yes, Umbridge's "lifetime ban" was pretty lame - a schoolteacher cannot ban you from playing a sport for life - so Harry will be back. Unless ...
23) Harry does not return as seeker. After all, he's got a lot on his plate. Ginny is seeker now and might not want to give up the job, even though she told Harry she'd rather be a chaser. Worse, if they compete for it she might actually beat Harry, and that would embarrass him. OotP makes two books in a row where Harry hasn't played Quidditch (well he played, but not for long). In fact, I can think of a good reason for JKR to "ban" him: it takes up too much of the story, which is becoming increasingly dense. Reducing Quidditch would bring the next book down several dozen pages at least.
24) Mimbulus Mimbletonia will be important. We still don't know exactly what it does. We still haven't met Great Uncle Algie either. I expect both will be fleshed out in Book 6.
25) Kreacher returns. Ah, but the interesting thing is, where? Is he still at 12 Grimmauld Place? Sirius is dead, is it still tied to the house? It would make sense that he is now working for Narcissa Malfoy, even if still present at Phoenix HQ. Very dangerous, that little creature.
26) The 2-way mirrors will be important. I am supposing that Hermione repairs the one Harry broke, which she is so good at. This would mean the pieces are still available, which suggests that either A) Harry keeps them or B) harry gets rescued from Privet drive before he even unpacks his trunk. Hey, Hermione did say they would be coming for him "really soon." How sooner can you get than Chapter 1?
I think Harry and Hermione will use them for two reasons. First, they have done lots of secret stuff together, and the mirrors enable secret missions. Second, it would bring Harry and Hermione closer together, which I believe is their ultimate fate - a couple.
27) Buckbeak is freed and returns to Hagrid. After Sirius, Hagrid and Harry are his only friends, and Harry will be too busy with school to care for him. Hagrid will no doubt turn him loose in the Forbidden Forest, where he will be very happy...until he gets dissed by a Centaur, perhaps. Speaking of which...
28) The Centaurs join Voldemort. Look at it from their point of view. The Forest is theirs, Hagrid has brought a giant in, students have tried to use them to ambush Umbridge (adding to their outrage, they fell for it) and Dumbledore is entirely on the opposing side in every case. We don't know how Dumbledore got Umbridge away from the Centaurs, but I'll bet it wasn't polite. Add to this the fact that one of their own has gone to work for - GASP! - humans. Nevermind that they kicked Firenze out and tried to murder him; fanatics are never self-critical.
29) Harry gets a new broom and gives the Firebolt to Ron. This makes sense. If Ron is still on the Gryffindor Quidditch team he could use a Firebolt, and Harry is being more assertive now, so he'll probably splurge and buy himself the latest model. Expect Ginny to get Ron's Cleansweep.
30) Dolores Umbridge returns, and boy is she mad (and I mean it in both senses of the word). You didn't expect her to go away quietly, did you? She'll be out as Fudge's pet hag, because Fudge will be out, but she won't be shoved aside entirely. She is far too "dedicated" for that. Expect her and Fudge to both show up at the worst possible moment, after having done something truly horrible. Remember, she really seems to hate Hermione, doesn't she?
31) Hagrid does indeed find a girlfriend for Grawp. Since I cannot possibly imagine what such a female would be like, it's best to leave it at that. I do think it'll be toward the end of the book however, unless her presence is important to the action, as Grawp's was.
32) Dementors are out of control. You knew this one, right? All I can say is, Harry should be grateful for his Aunt's protection. Indeed...
33) Harry and Petunia grow closer. We saw a hint of this in Book 5. Now if something happens to Vernon and/or Dudley but Petunia is spared, look for her to worry terribly, and for Harry to comfort her. This could be the blow that breaks the ice between them. He's already finally realized that his Aunt is his mother's sister. Now maybe we'll hear her side of the story that has been kept quiet so far. Even if we don't...
34) More magical history will be revealed. Especially the important stuff, like who Harry's grandparents were, and what happened to them. Most especially, how many of them (he had four, like everyone else) were Magical? Don't assume Petunia was a squib. It could be a lot more complicated than that. VERY complicated, especially if...
35) Harry learns he is related to the Malfoys...and the Blacks, the Lestranges, and even the Weasleys. Remember Molly saying Harry was "as good as" her own son? And there's got to be some connection if Harry is going to inherit 12 Grimmauld Place. This could also explain the Malfoys' hatred of Harry: not just because he "vanquished the Dark Lord" but because James was a blood-traitor.
36) Lupin returns as DADA teacher and hooks up with Sybil Trelawney. This seems likely because of two things. First, harry has lost Sirius, so he needs Lupin. Second, in Book 3 Trelawney seemed to have hot pants for Lupin. Hey, who better to marry a werewolf than a woman who herself has been despised and cast out? All the staff knew he was a werewolf: that probably made her love him even more. Lupin does suffer alone with noble dignity through no fault of his own. I think Trelawney will pursue him and, being Lupin, he'll be too nice to refuse her.
37) Cho Chang quits DA and turns against Harry. "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned," after all. You can bet JKR has read that famous passage, and she will surely demonstrate it literally in Book 6. The fact that Cho actually scorned Harry won't matter to her; she has very little capacity for self-criticism. Gee, have you noticed that about a lot of characters? Or about a lot of people in real life?
38) Hermione's parents are important. We haven't seen much of them, but we will. Sooner or later Harry will have to go to Hermione's house, especially if (as I think) Harry and Hermione will end up as a couple. When he does we'll get to know the Grangers quite well.
I would like to think we'll meet them when they have Harry over for tea and it'll be a fine old time. I shudder to think what the Death Eaters might do to get at Harry, like attacking the Muggle parents of one of his best friends. One thing is for sure, they will definitely figure large in Book 6.
39) Bill and Charlie (and Fleur Delacour) play bigger roles. Expect Bill and Fleur's romance to be a running subplot. It may be comic, tragic, or just splendid. You've been warned.
And what about Charlie? Ever since the first book he's been off in Romania. Isn't he done studying those dragons by now? Shouldn't he have a job already? Probably a dragon-handler, sure, we expect it, but hasn't he got his D.D. (Doctor of Dragonology) yet? I would hope so, as I expect dragons to be important in the sixth (and especially seventh) book.
40) Bill marries Fleur. This might not happen until Book 7, but I'm rooting for Book 6. Like I said, it will be splendid, and we need some splendor in among the rubble of the lives Voldemort is sure to ruin. Expect Ginny and Hermione to get heavily into it.
41) Hufflepuffs draw closer to Gryffindor, while Ravenclaws draw closer to Slytherin. This is their natural inclination. Have you noticed how the HP books mirror the times? Just as people are more extreme politically these days, expect the Houses to go to extremes.
Consider for example that Marietta Edgecombe, the sneak, is a Ravenclaw. There will be two emotional dynamics coming from this. First, Ravenclaws will be embarrassed that one of their own was so untrustworthy. But also, they will be insulted at the way she suffered under a spell by Hermione Granger, a Gryffindor smarty-pants who nobody ever liked anyway. It's bad enough that Their Girl is now despised - and many of them despise her for not being more clever, not for being a sneak - but it is far worse that someone in another house, especially that Brainiac Hermione Granger, got her so good. And have you noticed Brainiac Granger is a hottie nowadays? And she's always around that handsome, tragic, rich and famous boy hottie, Harry Potter. The girls of Ravenclaw will hate her even more.
And Marietta Edgecombe is still a good friend of Cho Chang, who is still jealous of Hermione, who Cho still thinks is Harry's true love.
Maybe Mr. Lovegood should publish The Magical Enquirer instead.
42) The havily-moustached wizard and the frizzy-haired witch in the second row, from Chapter 8 of Book 5, will be back...and hostile to Harry. I don't think they were mentioned just in passing. They were Fudge's cronies, and they might be out on the street with him. Expect them to be after Harry, even (or especially) if they don't lose their jobs.
43) Voldemort invades Harry's mind again. You can be sure of it. And you can be sure he will learn of the full, entire prophecy, since Harry has heard and seen it in the Pensieve.
44) Nagini turns out to be Harry's friend from the zoo. Remember that snake from Book 1? I am shocked that nobody else has seen this. Nagini is almost definitely the snake Harry released from the snakehouse. And remember, Harry can talk to snakes. And Harry was kind to this snake. And Voldemort simply uses this snake as a slave. And it pays to have your enemy's servant in your debt. Let's see, that's Pettigrew, Nagini...who else can Harry help out? Does he even need to? Consider that Voldemort depended - and may still depend - almost totally on these two. I think I can see how Harry might "vanquish" Voldemort without killing him...or without Harry HIMSELF killing him. Maybe I've said too much already.
45) Ghosts will be important. They can act as spies, and can even shock people by floating through them. And, lets face it, they cannot be killed - they're already dead! And wouldn't they be terrifying to Voldemort, who fears death? In fact...you don't suppose...
VOLDEMORT BECOMES A GHOST in Book 7?
This could be Dumbledore's "fate worse than death." Think of it: forced to live in a world he cannot affect, unable to go on to the Next World, stuck here, discorporeal forever. And don't forget ghosts can be banished. Do you expect anyone would let Voldemort's ghost haunt them, even former Death Eaters? No, they'd be too embarrassed at their failures and annoyed as the ghostly Voldemort continued to try to manipulate them. He would be banished everywhere that anyone recognized him. Bodiless and without effect, a hollow shadow of what he was, unable even to wield a wand. Surely this would be a fate far worse than death.
And finally...
46) Neville surprises us all. Don't ask me why, but I think Neville may in fact save the day. Maybe it's because of his valiant effort in the Deparment of Mysteries. It's also because his parents were very strong wizards, and the only thing holding him back are those awful memory charms. We are all fairly sure that Neville will break those charms, or they will be broken for him, maybe by Harry with some sort of legilimency trick - you did know Harry will turn out to be a powerful legilimens didn't you?

Ten Cardinal Rules in the Kitchen

  1. Always put cinnamon powder on your breakfast coffee. (for that feel-good vibe to last the whole day)
  2. Never ever put tons of pepper on your soup! (Pepper overpowers and ruins the taste of the soup)
  3. During Christmas season, if you don't have apple cider, get the most sour apple ( the green ones) and juice it and boil the juice, serve with cinnamon stick. Perfect after dinner!
  4. The best pick-me-up drink for the day is salabat. Really, I'm not kidding! Besides, ginger is good for the sinuses, so if you have a cold, drink salabat!
  5. Knives for kitchen dwellers (like me) are like guns for soldiers. If you have the new knives that can't be sharpened, put them on the freezer to bring back the sharpness.
  6. Nestle Cream is very versatile. You can use it for salads, making homemade ice cream, and of course, cream soup just in case you run out of Campbell's.
  7. If your crush is gonna have breakfast @ yoour home, make aphrodisia pancakes! Put chocolate bits or chips in pancake batter and add pinches of cinnamon and nutmeg (not too much nutmeg, though), and voila! Instant aphrodisia pancakes!
  8. Your kitchen is not complete without patis! Yeah, that lowly patis! It's very versatile, can use to salten up any dish, even pasta!
  9. You have to eat your own food creation even if it doesn't taste good.
  10. If having difficulty concerning a recipe, consult mother.

Living life to the fullest means eating any food you can encounter.

Ciao!

You Know You're Too Big of a Fan When...

  1. You mutter nonsense latin words under your breath.
  2. You call your least favorite teacher Snape.
  3. Your computer says "You've Got Mail" and you run outside looking for an owl.
  4. You actually ask for a broom for Christmas.
  5. You mutter "lumos" under your breath every time you turn on a flashlight.
  6. You sort everyone you meet into the four Hogwarts houses. (Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin.)
  7. You were burned when you couldn't get through the flames of your fireplace.
  8. You had to go to the hospital after you broke your nose running headfirst into the wall between platforms nine and ten.
  9. The wand order mistake in GoF drove you crazy, and even after it was "corrected" you still came up with dozens of theories to explain why that happened.
  10. You point a normal things like parking meters and say "Look at the things these muggles dream up!"
  11. You collect plugs.
  12. You try on every piece of silvery fabric your mom has to see if you turn invisible
  13. Before getting up to get something, you always try to summon it first. Accio TV remote!
  14. You watched "Love, Actually" because two minor Harry Potter actors were in it.
  15. You were reduced to tears when you finally had book 5 in your hands.

Contradictions, contradictions

The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.

Haay.... buhay...... ganito lang siguro talaga...... Life's such a bitch....

Let's just say I was in a hurry to meet someone and fall in love..... Sa sobrang pagmamadali ko, I ended up as the loser (as in, may malaking L sa malaki kong forehead). Ako rin ang umasa.... at in the course sa kakaasa, nasaktan..... Mom: "Masyado ka pang bata, huwag ka munang magmadali."

Ngayon namang, I'm still trying to make up for the lost time (dahil sa kakahanap ng love). Eto, I usually don't care about how I look. I enjoy eating... (fattening myself, actually). I enjoy life without that "significant someone" holding me on a leash.....

*sigh* Ano ba talaga???????

One thing I learned in all of this crazy b.s., never listen to anyone but
yourself. Your intuition is your guide to finding yourself, and you will
discover your perception of happiness....

Fred and George Wealsey's Most Glorious Moment

"You two," she went on, gazing down at Fred and George, "are about to learn what happens to wrongdoers in my school.""You know what?" said Fred. "I don't think we are."He turned to his twin."George," said Fred, "I think we've outgrown a full-time education.""Yeah, I've been feeling that way myself," said George lightly."Time to test our talents in the real world, d'you reckon?" asked Fred."Definitely," said George. And before Umbridge could say a word, they raised their wants and said together, "Accio Brooms!"Harry heard a loud crash somewhere in the distance. Looking to his left he ducked just in time -- Fred and George's broomsticks, one still trailing the heavy chain and iron peg with which Umbridge had fastened them to the wall, were hurtling along the corridor toward their owners. They turned left, streaked down the stairs, and stopped sharply in front of the twins, the chain clattering loudly on the flagged stone floor."We won't be seeing you," Fred told Professor Umbridge, swinging his leg over his broomstick."Yeah, don't bother to keep in touch," said George, mounting his own.Fred looked around at the assembled students, and at the silent, watchful crowd."If anybody fancies buying a Portable Swamp, as demonstrated upstairs, come to number ninety-three Diagon Alley – Weasley's Wizard Wheezes," he said in a loud voice. "Our new premesis!""Special discounts to Hogwarts students who swear they're going to use our products to get rid of this old bat," said George, pointing at Professor Umbridge."STOP THEM!" shrieked Umbridge, but it was too late. As the Inquisitorial Squad closed in, Fred and George kicked off from the floor, shooting fifteen feet into the air, the iron peg swinging dangerously below. Fred looked across the hall at the poltergeist bobbing on his level above the crowd."Give her hell from us, Peeves.""And Peeves, whom Harry had never seen take an order from a student before, swept his belled hat from his head and sprang to a salute as Fred and George wheeled about to tumultuous applause from the students below and sped out of the open front doors into the glorious sunset.

The Message Behind the Door

First the message, a refresher for anyone who doesn’t have it imprinted in their mind or engraved heavily into their computer desk:
He looked rather like an old lion. There were streaks of grey in his mane of tawny hair and his bushy eyebrows; he had keen yellowish eyes behind a pair of wire-rimmed spectacles and a certain rangy, loping grace even though he walked with a slight limp. First off, I’d never heard the word "rangy," so more for myself than anything else, I looked it up in the dictionary. Rangy, apparently, is another word for gangly or lanky; so we’re probably looking at someone quite tall.
The description puzzles me and I’ve found myself yelling at my computer as the comments come flooding in: it’s the HBP!; it’s Godric Gryffindor!; it’s McGonagall’s husband!; it’s McClaggan!
Now, before I spontaneously combust, I want to try and disprove some of these theories:
“It’s the HBP.” – I think that’s almost an insult to Jo! I have no doubt in my mind that she would NOT make it that easy for us. Although the whole book isn’t going to be centred around the Half Blood Prince we’ve all been talking over, she didn’t give any information away about who the Prisoner of Azkaban was before book 3, what the Goblet of Fire was before book 4 and definitely not what the Order of the Phoenix was before book 5. I don’t think it’s going to be any different this time around, my fellow Potter fans. I don’t think we’re going to find that out until the book is right in front of our goggling little eyes.
"It’s Godric Gryffindor." - To put it simply: he’s dead. I don’t think it’s ever been specifically stated, but the dude lived over a thousand years ago and just like R. Ravenclaw, S. Slytherin and H. Hufflepuff, he’s dead, buried and gone. If they weren’t, there’d be no reason for the Sorting Hat and no wizard is immortal unless they have the Philosophers/Sorcerer’s stone, which has been destroyed.
"It's McGonagall’s husband." - It’s never been stated that Minerva is married, and I’m not seeing that as an option until Jo reveals McGonagall's marital status.
Lastly, "it’s good old McClaggan." – He/she has only been mentioned once and already they’re about as famous as the Mona Lisa. To defy this theory, I call upon a quote from Rowling’s talk at the Edinburgh Book Festival:
"I found the name McClaggan the other day, which I think is a great name. There is a McClaggan in book six because I thought that it is a surname that is too good to waste." I don’t think this McClaggan person is going to have a main role – I think he/she is going to have a minute part, a little like Archie in Goblet, the guy who made Hermione giggle by refusing to replace his muggle nightdress with trousers...gotta love the guy!
By the sounds of things, Jo just put him/her in because she liked the name, which is as good a reason as any. Any main parts that Jo thinks up already have names, I believe, even if they do end up being changed (like Rita being called Bridget) and are planned beforehand. Jo’s now halfway through the book, and she states that she only came across the name the other day. Sounds like a bit part to me.
I have to say, I don’t think we’ve come across the character described before and I’m one of many speculating that maybe, just MAYBE, this guy’s the new defense against the dark arts teacher (in which case I feel sorry for the Hogwarts first years because he doesn’t come across as the friendliest-looking person in the world). Either that, or it’s just a random passage about a random, bit-part person.
Frankly, I don’t think we’ll know who this dude is until the book’s published. We may not like secrecy but Jo does, and we respect that. I don’t think the "Brain Behind Harry" is going to give away too much until the book’s out there to be devoured.

Mythology, Voldemort, Love, and the final 2 books

Harry Potter is a true hero in both the literary and mythological senses. In fact, HP is an excellent example of myth in the modern age. Harry can proudly take his place as "the hero with a thousand faces" in the 20th and 21st centuries.
Naturally, many parallels exist with other hero stories. One of the most recent of the modern myths is Star Wars. Looking at one may help us in understanding the other. Consider: ?
Both are about an orphaned boy. Harry Potter lives with the unloving Uncle Vernon and Aunt Petunia. Luke Skywalker lived with the not unloving, but tough Uncle Lars and Aunt Beru. ?
The father of each hero was "killed" by the villain. This literally true for Harry, and figuratively for Luke. ?
Each hero was mentored by a gentle, wise, old man (at times seemingly omnipotent and omniscient) in the ways of "magic". ?
Each of the villains was the prize pupil of the corresponding hero's mentor. ?
Harry and Luke must both master their passions in order to access their full potentials.
We will return to this parallel later. Let us get on with the business of figuring out the course of the last two books, and how Harry can defeat Lord Voldemort. Let us assume that it is not the case that part of Voldemort lives in Harry. This is an excellent theory, and our proposed solution might be made to work in that case as well, but it is extraneous here.
There appear to be three ways to kill Voldemort in keeping with the characters and scenario that Rowling has given us, hinted at, etc. They are: the cheap way, the easy way, and the hard way. The cheap way is for someone to push Voldemort through the curtained arch in the Department of Mysteries. This would bypass standard death dealing techniques and Voldemort's ability to avoid death. In addition to being anticlimactic, however, it doesn't fit with the quality of the writing and planning that Rowling has put into the books. Also, this is simply not a heroic ending.
The easy way is for Harry to take Voldemort through the curtain. While this is a heroic way of doing it, it is more suited to a tragic hero. Since Harry is a true hero, this would be bad from a literary point of view. In addition, it would not be well received by the hordes of fans.
The hard way is the one that has been suggested in the excellent essays which prompted these musings. Harry must use Love to defeat Voldemort. Here we mean love in the sense of agape, rather than eros, though the latter should have its place. Others have given the reasons this should be so, and we will not repeat them here, but we will add some further thoughts.
Harry's anger and frustration have been rising throughout the series until, by OotP, that is all there is; any moment of happiness or even temperament is short-lived. He cannot love Cho, and even his friends constantly seem to have an irritating effect on him. The journey of a true hero involves some element of self-realization and/or learning a new way of being. Harry must learn to replace his anger or it will be the end of him. Love seems the logical replacement.
Those who have argued that love will defeat Voldemort haven't provided any analysis as to how it will be done, or how Harry will learn what he needs to. Let's examine first the way love could defeat Voldemort.
Possession has been suggested, usually Voldemort possessing Harry, and the love within Harry destroying Voldemort. Possible, also, would be Harry possessing Voldemort, and the power of love killing Voldemort from within. Interesting ideas, especially since there is already a little bit of Harry inside Voldemort. Apart from that, there seems to be little groundwork laid for this plan. There is the existing connection between them, but that could be used in any solution. There have been possessions, but nothing to suggest that it could be made necessarily lethal.
Let us look to mythology again, as HP is fine myth. The most prevalent mythology of our culture and era is the Christian one. The most important lesson of Christ is also the most difficult to master: "Love thine enemy". If you have truly mastered that, then you have reached your full potential. This brings us back to the parallels between Harry Potter and Luke Skywalker. How does Luke defeat Darth Vader? Through love! He does not kill Vader when he has the opportunity, and allows himself to be pushed to the brink of death. He stops referring to Vader's current persona, and appeals to Anakin Skywalker, who is still within. Eventually, the love of Anakin for his son reawakens him and the Darth Vader persona is thrown off and he saves Luke. Could this be the way for Harry to defeat Voldemort?
What was the purpose of CoS? It's a great tale and many important things happen in it, but the one critical thing, the thing that makes it CoS, is that Harry meets Tom Riddle! Harry learns about Tom Riddle. Harry learns about how Tom Riddle was destroyed by Voldemort, the same way that Anakin Skywalker was destroyed by Vader. Why? So that Harry can see that there is a lonely, unloved boy within, much like himself. Someone to be pitied, perhaps, and worth saving? This would support the idea of destroying Voldemort by saving Tom Riddle.
Further support comes from Dumbledore. He knows or strongly suspects the truth. When referring to You-Know-Who, he uses the name "Voldemort,” because Voldemort is the one behind the bad things that happen. When talking to him, Dumbledore calls him "Tom.” Dumbledore is not talking to the Voldemort persona, he is talking to the Tom Riddle buried deep inside. He is trying to keep Tom from disappearing altogether. Dumbledore doesn't use any killing attacks against Voldemort, either because he knows they won't work or because he wants to save Tom (or both).
Thus, we contend that the way for Harry to defeat Lord Voldemort is for him to reawaken Tom Riddle and for Tom to throw off the Voldemort persona.
It remains to be asked "How does Harry do that?" There are three main stages. The first is for Harry to make changes within himself. Next, Harry must learn to relate to and deal with others so that the love we have been talking about can be exchanged. Finally, Harry must do this with Riddle/Voldemort.
How can Harry master his passions? First it is necessary to stabilize his relationship with the Dursleys. Petunia is already more accepting of (or at least resigned to) the role she and Harry will play in each others’ lives. In fact it looks like Petunia will be an important character in the last two books. At the end of OotP, Harry's adult friends conveyed to the Dursleys the importance of not harassing Harry. It will be up to Harry to do his part in return.
Harry must continue his occlumency classes to help calm himself and keep Voldemort from affecting him. As we will see, this will tie in with the second stage of Harry learning to deal with Voldemort.
The Philtre of Peace must play a role in this story. It practically slaps the reader in the face when it appears. Here would seem to be a good place to use it. Harry could take it in the early stages, until he has better control, or when he is getting exceedingly out of control.
How does Harry learn to use the love that is within him? He has already started through his relationship with Sirius. This is possibly why Sirius exists in HP. Sirius had to die in order for Harry to learn to deal with the death of a loved one, and to learn not to let that love become poisoned by the death. Harry could possibly get a longer lasting girlfriend - Luna, perhaps. Harry needs to work on his friendship with Ron and Hermione, maybe learning from a relationship blossoming between those two. Once his relationship with the Dursleys is stable, perhaps they could even warm to each other and become more like a family.
These are useful and, perhaps, necessary or important advances, but there should be one absolutely critical and unavoidable new relationship that Harry must form. What is the role of Severus Snape in HP? He hasn't really served a useful purpose to this point. He has grown more hostile toward Harry (and vice versa) through the series. On the other hand, he has served as a protector of Harry throughout. He is someone balanced on a knifepoint, and in the middle of everything.
Now, the most important thing about Snape is the fact that, like Riddle/Voldemort, his young life was a parallel to Harry's. Snape's life, however, takes the middle course, neither the hero nor the villain, neither good nor evil. (Here we could insert a lengthy mythological analysis involving the Grail, but we shall try to stay focused.) Who better for Harry to "practice" on than Snape? If Harry can forge a new relationship with Snape and actually engender some goodwill between the two, then Harry will have taken a giant step toward being able to defeat Voldemort. Note that in order for Harry to continue his study of occlumency it will be necessary for him to take a few steps in this direction.
What is the point of Snape's memories in the Pensieve except to allow Harry to see and experience him in the same way that he experienced Tom Riddle in CoS? Harry should have enough common ground and understanding to start building a better relationship with Snape. He could approach Snape with more respect, dedication, and humility (especially if it goes against the grain). Snape's response could be that he will become less hostile toward Harry. This should make Harry feel better disposed toward Snape, his new attitude less forced, and he would do better at his lessons. Snape's respect for Harry could go up, and so on.
This new association with Snape could be viewed as a bridge between Gryffindor and Slytherin. With Harry and Snape in the Order, it could be viewed as an alliance. Probably, however, the Sorting Hat's advice refers to the students. Harry may have to forge an alliance with one or more Slytherin students. The most obvious place to look is Malfoy. However, there does not seem to be any indication that they will, or could bond together. What, then, is Malfoy's role in HP?
From a literary or storytelling point of view, he is probably a necessary foil for the hero. In HP, he must be something more. One possibility: another editorial was correct and the Grangers will die. So far Malfoy has talked a good game, but has done little to match his talk. Perhaps having a schoolmate's parents killed (maybe by his own father) will cause Malfoy to realize that he doesn't really hate muggles. More likely, Malfoy will do something (or react to the death of the Grangers, e.g.) that really revolts another, more moderate, member of Slytherin. Maybe even Crabbe, Goyle, or Parkinson. This could lead to an alliance through DA.
Maybe Malfoy's role as schoolyard bully has more importance than previously thought. By continually standing up to Malfoy, Harry is setting an example for the reader, demonstrating just how weak bullies really are. For stories with children as the primary targets, this is a very important point. Perhaps this can be used in HP by requiring Harry to choose between his own safety or comfort and helping Malfoy, even though they hate each other. This could be one of the small steps along the way to Harry's transformation.
Finally, we come to how Harry will retrieve Tom Riddle. Probably, we can do little more than speculate. Jo Rowling must be allowed some leeway, after all ;)
Undoubtedly, the parallels between the characters and their bond will play a role. Possession of one by the other could play a role, but not necessarily so. So far, little has been made of the fact that muggle-hating Voldemort is himself a half-blood. This could become more prominent in the final two books. Harry could gain the upper hand in a battle with Voldemort (again) and refuse to kill him. Perhaps the very fact that Harry comes to love (or, at least, accept and be friendly with) the Dursleys, Snape, Malfoy, and whoever else, will play a big part in Tom Riddle coming to terms with, and accepting, his own heritage.
Whatever does happen to bring it about, rest assured that Riddle/Voldemort's heart will "grow three sizes that day."
